Maxxis RAZRs win 4×4 Australia 2020 Tyre Test
The Maxxis RAZR MT772 has taken out top spot in the 4×4 Australia 2020 Tyre Test, making Maxxis the winner of this prestigious test for the second consecutive year!
Competing against a high calibre field, the RAZR pulled out all the stops to prove its pedigree and performance — beyond any shadow of a doubt.
Testing took place on bitumen at Pheasant Wood Circuit in Sydney on a Ford Everest driven by Paul Stockell, a former Australian Drivers Champion, a driver that 4×4 Australia admits “knows how to push a car to its limit”. The vehicle’s stability control was switched off to truly test the limits of the tyres which were put through their paces in wet and dry braking from 100km/hr to standstill, and in a series of wet and dry cornering tests which evaluated how long it took for the vehicle to get through the curve.
Taking the lead in wet braking (stopping a massive 1.3m shorter than its rivals!) as well as in both wet and dry cornering – the RAZR not only impressed, but left its rivals lagging well behind, with 4×4 Australia saying: “The RAZR led the pack in wet and dry cornering tests, and it was also the quickest to pull up on the wet track.”
Calling the RAZR “a clear winner which outclassed the rivals in most disciplines”, 4×4 Australia says that in its wet cornering the Maxxis tyres added “an extra degree of confidence to allow Stockell to push on that fraction harder, in turn scrabbling through the corner better.”
In dry cornering, the comment was made that “the RAZRs were at – or very close to – the pointy end in each of our corners”. In addition, the RAZRs solid construction was noted with the outer edges of the tyres remaining in good condition even after the gruelling testing was complete.
Pricing of the tyres in the field was also considered, with the RAZRs falling in the middle of the range of the muddies tested, again reinforcing their exceptional value for money: “That the price slotted into the middle of our field, at around $305 each, made them all the more impressive.”
With its final overall score standing at 401.4 points, the RAZR finished 8.4 points ahead of nearest rival Bridgestone. In its test results summary 4×4 Australia said that the RAZRs decent grip in the wet and dry made the Maxxis a solid performer in all disciplines, either leading or doing very well in each category.
“It was a clear winner, with the sharp pricing helping extend its lead over its quartet of rivals.”
The RAZRs latest success in the 2020 test comes on the back of the win of the Maxxis Bravo AT700 in the 2019 all-terrain tyre test – which 4×4 Australia alludes to at the outset of this year’s test review noting “clearly the brand knows what it’s doing”!
