Roadsafe 4WD Ram Adaptor ID 40mm

Four wheel drivers with lifted vehicles are often faced with quite a significant dilemma when out in the bush with a flat tyre......their factory bottle jack is no longer effective! They have lifted their vehicles 50-100mm & the bottle jack ram doesn't extend high enough to get the tyre off the ground.

Roadsafe have a program in the form of Bottle Jack Extensions & jack accessories. All aimed at making the process of jacking up vehicles a much safer & more secure.Roadsafe bottle jack extensions are sized to slip over the ram of the bottle jack & basically act as a ram extension, adding to the length to the ram, so the jack can sit firmly on the ground whilst the load is lifted. The parts slot together nicely to provide a safer & more stable option when jacking up your vehicle.

The standard extensions have been designed with 35.5mm ID so suit ram diameters of between 28-35mm (6T bottle jack usually has 31.7mm ram dia). With adaptors available to suit 35.5mm-39mm, 40mm-44.5mm & 45-49.5mm Extensions have been designed allowing for 75mm, 150mm & 225-305mm & have been designed to give a total of 520mm of extension if all used together. Jack pads & plates are also available.

As part of the Roadsafe Ram Extension Program we have put together a quick kit, supplied complete with storage bag. The new kit includes three ram extensions from 75mm - 305mm plus Top Plate Extensions Flat & Axle style.

What you receive:

  • Ram Adaptor ID 40mm

We have a range of Ram Extensions & Plates available.

What are Ram Extensions, and why do I need them?
Four wheel drivers with lifted vehicles are often faced with quite a significant dilemma when out in the bush with a flat… their factory bottle jack is no longer effective!  They have lifted their vehicles 50-100mm and the bottle jack ram does not extend high enough to get the tyre off the ground.
To get around this the current options are to:
  • Get a lump of wood or cribbing blocks to place under the bottle jack (dangerous because instability could result in collapse)
  • Purchase & carry a new bottle jack/trolley jack with a ram length extendable to suit their lift (expensive & big/heavy to carry)
  • Use a High Lift jack or similar (unstable at height, sometimes difficult to use, not everyone has one)
Roadsafe  ‘Bottle Jack Extensions & associated Bottle Jack accessories’ are aimed at making the process of jacking up vehicles a much safer and more secure one.
How to the Ram Extensions work?
Roadsafe Bottle Jack Extensions are sized to slip over the ram of the standard bottle jack and basically act as a ram extension, adding length to the ram so the jack can sit firmly on the ground while the load is lifted. The parts slot snugly together, which makes the jacking option much safer and less likely to tip and become unstable.
The standard extensions have been designed with 35.5mm ID so suit for ram diameters of between 28-35mm (6 ton bottle jack typically have a 1.25” (31.75mm) ram diameter).
What if my bottle jack ram is bigger than 35mm diameter?
Simple!  There are three ram adaptors available to suit for 35.5mm-39.5mm, 40mm-44.5mm & 45-49.5mm diameters.
What size are the Extensions and how much additional height can I expect?
Extensions have been designed allowing for 75mm (3”), 150mm (6”) & 225-305mm adjustable (up to 12”). The extensions have been designed to slot together snugly, so you can interchange the pieces to get the height & configuration required. Using all three extensions together will give 530mm (20”) of extension.  The key is, however, to keep the jacking process a safe one.  Always refer back to safe jacking practices.
I am using a ram extension, but need a larger surface area on the jacking point.  How do I achieve this?
Jack pads have also been included in the range. The jack pads simply slot onto the ram extensions (or adaptors) to provide a flat 100x100mm head, or an angled head suited for axle tubes and other rounded surfaces (ie. rock sliders etc.) up to 80mm in diameter. The pads increase the jacking stability and serve to distribute the load over a greater surface area to minimise damage to the specific area being lifted.
My jack footprint is too small, and sinks into the soft sand and mud.  Is there an accessory to fix this problem?
Glad you asked!  Another issue experienced when jacking, especially in the terrain four wheel drivers take their vehicles (sand, mud, dirt) is the jack sinking into the ground under load. To alleviate this the smaller footprint of the jack needs increasing. Included in the program is an upgraded base plate measuring a whopping 205x460mm.
The large 205x460mm ‘Big Boy’ plate, has been designed to provide the ultimate in jack stability. The ‘Big Boy’ gives you 940 square centimetres (145 square inches) of jacking safety! The widened & lengthened base is 4 times more stable than the jack on its own, and the size of the base makes supporting loads on soft surfaces very easy – with the footprint up to (depending upon the original jack size) 10 times larger. For example a typical 6 ton bottle jack lifting 2700kgs would have a ground loading of approx. 28kg per square centimetre – but with the ‘Big Boy’ that is reduced to only 2.8kg per square centimetre. The base is shaped with ‘sled’ style ends & convenient handles, so it can be easily positioned & carried.

Why are the ram extensions yellow?
All pieces are supplied in Roadsafe yellow e-coating, to start with, for easy identification & visibility.  Black is too hard to find in either the dark or mud!
Over time the yellow will chip & wear away (as the parts rub together in transit & are used).  This does not affect the performance of the components – and just shows that you are a real 4wd’er with a hands-on approach to 4WD’ing.   You can repaint them any colour, if you’d like.  If doing that however, please DO NOT paint the inside of the extensions/adaptors, as this will reduce the ID and might impede fitment to the ram sizes as indicated.
What does the range consist of?
The program consists of (at this stage) 9 pieces, including:
  • SB113                    Extension – 75mm (fixed)
  • SB114                    Extension – 150mm (fixed)
  • SB115                    Extension – 225mm-305mm (adjustable)
  • SB116                    Top Plate – Flat
  • SB117                    Top Plate – Axle

General Use & Safety Information for Ram Extensions & Top Plates
Any warnings, precautions and instructions noted,or any other information sheets provided with regard to the use of the Roadsafe 4WD ram extensions & associated products cannot cover all possible situations or conditions that may occur during the use of the product. The use of these items must understand that caution and common sense are important factors that we cannot build into this product, and must be supplied by the end user.
WARNINGDo not allow anyone in or near the vehicle while using a jack. This practice will make jacking highly unstable. Any sudden movements and shifts in weight will result in instability. Keep all personnel a safe distance away from the vehicle.
WARNINGDo not attempt to lift any vehicle on a longitudinal or side slope. The vehicle can slide or roll causing severe injury or death. Always ensure the vehicle is on flat, even ground prior to any attempt at lifting.
WARNINGAlways ensure you follow correct jacking practice and manufacturers instructions with regard to the correct use of a jack, including but not limited to, ensuring the vehicle is turned off, the transmission is engaged in the appropriate setting commonly PARK (for Auto) or Low (1st) gear (for manual) -and that the wheels are blocked diagonal to the wheel being lifted, with satisfactorily size wheel chocks.Where the ram extension is being used on bottle jacks with adjustable screw tops, is imperative that all extensions or pads must have at least 13mm of engagement down onto the bottle jack ram. Extending the screw out too far, resulting in less than 13mm contact with the ram, will cause the extension or pad to become unstable.
Ram Extensions & Top Plates have been designed standard with 35.5mm ID to suit for a 28-35mm ram OD. Adaptors avail-able to suit for 35.5-39.5mm, 40-44.5mm & 45-49.5mm size rams.
