Superior Leaf Sprung Track Corrected Chromoly Diamond Diff Housing to suit the Toyota Landcruiser 79 Series (Non VSC & VSC Models)

When Toyota went to the wide body VDJ they widened the front diff by 100mm, 50mm per side but in their wisdom they didn't widen the rear. This has been an ongoing frustration for 76, 78, and 79 owners as this difference in track (width of the diffs) cause the car to feel like the back of the car is steering the front, particularly when loaded or towing.

By correcting the track (adding 50mm to each side) makes the car more stable. Correcting the track can be done several ways such as by using wheel spacers. They can however add extra stress to the wheel bearings, as well as the risk of them coming loose. Using offset wheels on the rear will also correct the track, but again place extra stess on the wheel bearing. The Superior Engineering Wide Track Diff housing has been widen to match the front diff & is the far superior way to correct this issue.

The Superior chromoly diff is offered as both Standard Track or Track Corrected. Check your state laws for regulations & legalities on fitting the Track Corrected diff. The track corrected housing for example is legal in Victoria but not in QLD. This is because QLD legislation specifically say you cannot adjust the track of and axel, whereas Victoria says you cannot adjust the track of a vehicle. Making the front and rear the same in Victoria is not a problem, because you are not changing the cars track, but in QLD it would be an issue.

The Superior Engineering Wide-Track rear Diff housing is a fully fabricated high tensile replacement differential housing which has been widened to match the track width of the front diff (~95mm).

This Heavy Duty Housing features a fabricated 6mm high-tensile multi-faceted center housing for optimal strength and durability. Then 13.5mm heavy wall 4140 chromoly outer tubes are added to create the Ultimate Toyota 79 series diff.

Features

• Chromoly 13.5mm wall housing tubes that are 830 MPA average tensile strength where our competition uses 6mm mild steel 350 grade that is 350MPA , meaning just in the tubes alone a Superior Engineering housing is at least double the strength over our competitors.
  FEA tests were completed at 15 tonne load, they only deflect the housing <1mm, 15 tonne destroys our competitions diff housings.
• We are the only manufacturer using 90mm axle tubes, all other companies are using a smaller 80mm axle tube. 
  Because we use a 90mm axle tube this also greatly increases the overall strength of the housing to resist bending from loading or impact.
• Our diamond diff comes standard with 6mm chromoly 830 MPA plate , it has a further 4mm added to the rear of the housing and underneath the housing which eliminates the need of any further diff protection.
• We have more ground clearance than our competitors because we used  larger tubes and a wider overall diamond this meant we did not have weld additional gusseting underneath the diff housing unlike other manufacturers do.

Why buy a Diff Housing?:
The introduction of the V8 diesel engine into the 70 Series model from 2007 resulted in an increase in front wheel track, while the rear track remained the same. This change produces an OEM track variation from front to rear of 95mm.

The narrower rear track can cause the vehicle to sway unpredictably when travelling on soft surfaces, or on tracks that have existing wheel ruts. Even changes in road surface on sealed roads can sometime cause problems. Issues with instability can arise when towing or when a lift is added raising the center of gravity in heavily loaded touring vehicles.
